Abstract
Recent developments in the nature of phenolic resins and catalysts (for example, Cellobond FRP range from BP Chemicals Ltd) for the production of fibre-reinforced composites are presented. These are shown to be making significant steps towards meeting the needs of both fabricators and end-user markets such as the rail industry. In addition, novel phenolic composite products are discussed which may be of value in the production of future rail vehicles where fire safety and weight reduction are becoming increasingly important.
