Abstract
A recommended optimum near-term solution to Beirut's serious solid-waste problem would involve a separation plant to achieve the maximum economic degree of recycling, including the separation of food and vegetable matter for composting and incineration of the non-recyclable combustible fraction with energy recovery. A gas turbine running on the supplementary-fired exhaust-heated cycle, giving high-efficiency power production at small land use and first cost, is proposed.
