Abstract
Giving examples from Lucas, the paper outlines the route to simplifying operations and achieving the necessary step change in performance by understanding and applying ‘business systems engineering’ to the whole business process. Each part of the process is designed by finding the way that is most appropriate to meet the market requirements.
