Abstract
This Address traces the 1992–93 Chairman's career, which has mainly been centred in the automotive industry. The Address draws on some examples from experiences in the design and introduction of commercial vehicle and rail products, suggesting some working practices to be considered in the achievement of sound product development. The Address also recommends that members of the Institution continue their promotional efforts of professional engineering and urges them to become more active in this respect, especially in the workplace and with their contacts in secondary schools.
