Abstract
The published receptances of beams have been based on the Bernouli-Euler model for beams and thus do not include the effects of shear and rotary intertia. As a result, under some circumstances significant errors occur. The receptances of beams including shear and rotary inertia effects are derived in this paper and compared with those based on the Bernouli-Euler model. In addition, because slope continuity is no longer a compatibility requirement for the addition of beams, the approach for the addition of such ‘systems’ is discussed.
