The geometry of the shell of an air spring is examined and it is shown that it can be described in a plane of symmetry by the following equation cast in the XY plane:
The error in calculating the stress in the shell, assuming it to be of spherical form, is determined and it is shown that the error can be small if care is taken with the geometric design of the spring.
