The object of this paper is to present some preliminary results on the application of parallel processing to the simulation of manufacturing systems. The paper is focused on the basic concepts and techniques that were used in the development of a parallel simulation model written in OCCAM for a PC-based transputer system. Other technical features and characteristics of parallel processing for discrete-event-based simulations are discussed with an illustrating example.
