Abstract
A statistical method of verifying that centrifugal pump performance requirements have been met is presented which has advantages over the BS 5316 (ISO 3555) method currently in use. The method can be used to calculate from test data both the lower and the upper confidence limits of pump total head at a given rate of flow and compare them with guaranteed values, it can also be used to determine the upper limit of pump power input at a given rate of flow. The method is being considered by the International Standards Organisation for inclusion as an option in the forthcoming revision of ISO/BSI standards on pump acceptance tests.
The statistical method is most easily applied using an interactive computer program. A BASIC language program, suitable for use on low-cost personal computers, is presented in the paper.
