Abstract
Many companies are now resolutely investigating the possibilities of making a substantial investment in computer integrated manufacture (CIM), with the purpose of improving business competitiveness through appropriate and effective manufacturing control. This paper proposes the importance of choosing a strategical approach to analysis and design which makes use of sound methodologies and tools. A case study of such an approach is described, up to the construction of the statement of requirements and invitation to tender. Emphasis is given to the IDEF0 methodology as being central to the success of the study.
