The application of interference fits is common in engineering. They provide reliable and simple designs capable of taking good static and dynamic load. For a specific fit with certain interference, the performance can be improved by imparting an excellent finish to the mating surfaces. In addition to this there is another possibility to improve the performance of such assemblies. This paper deals in detail with the procedure and the results obtained in this connection.
