Abstract
This paper describes briefly the sporting background of Bentley motor cars and the early development of the Mulsanne Turbo. Following the decision to produce an improved version which would be fully worthy of its sporting heritage the Turbo R was produced by development of the car which derives from the long-lived Shadow and Spirit series. The development of the Turbo R chassis is described as is the extensive work on the engine and its installation to incorporate fuel injection and meet ECE 15.04 exhaust emission levels with improvements in performance and fuel economy.
