Abstract
The paper presents an analysis of the deformations and stresses in the rolling contact of solids of revolution. The simplified model is based upon traction-free rolling and materials which are ideal elastic-plastic solids, but produces upper and lower bound solutions for groove formation and residual stress distributions which are realistic.
Data for the three-dimensional problem are presented showing the process of cumulative deformation during a number of rolling cycles up to a steady state.
