Abstract
This paper presents the author's views on the importance of education in future wealth creation, in particular the education of engineers, and on the need for industrial /academic co-operation. It points out that there will be an increasing demand for engineers in high technology and that providing the resources for their education and training is vital if the UK economy is to survive and prosper. It concludes by outlining the proposals of the Engineering Council for the future education and training of engineers.
