Abstract
Computer simulation is a well proven and powerful tool to assist engineers in the decision making which is part of plant design and operation. British Steel (BSC) was the pioneer in this field. The paper describes recent advances in simulation tools, and recent examples of their application.
Drawing on BSC experience, the paper discusses where and how simulation should be used in order to secure the considerable potential benefits in reduced costs and improved plant performance.
