Abstract
A comprehensive computer aided design package has been developed to predict the sound field and sound power of an arbitrary vibrating machine structure subject only to the limitations of computer storage. The technique is a combination of a standard finite element package and a specially developed noise prediction package based on the Helmholtz integral equation. The accuracy of the package has been verified experimentally for two impact forming machines. Experimental results and theoretical predictions were found to agree within 2 dB in general.
