Abstract
Pressure pulsations generated by pumps and motors can often be a major source of noise in hydraulic systems. In this paper two test methods for the determination of the pressure ripple characteristics of pumps are described. The first method enables a pump to be characterized by a frequency spectrum or a single figure or merit, enabling simple comparisons to be drawn between units. Typical results are presented and discussed. The second test method enables pump characteristics to be defined in more detail. This provides useful information for designers. The method also has the ability to provide information on the pressure ripple characteristics of valves. Typical results are again presented.
