Abstract
In this work the subject of NC (numerically controlled) machine tool investment is viewed in the context of two quite different manufacturing systems. The selection of an NC plant is examined in a study exemplifying a highly profitable and traditional functionally organized plant; here the machine selection process itself is examined and particular reference is made to the data requirements met in the company considered. A second duty is then used to demonstrate the operational implications of NC plant when implemented as a successful cellular system.
