Abstract
The need for a high level of corrosion resistance in motor cars continues to increase. In the view of Rolls-Royce Motors it can only be achieved by careful application of suitable systems and an appreciation of the processes by the designers.
For components and assemblies in critical areas, tests have been developed to ensure the limitations of corrosion protection methods over long service periods are understood, particularly for parts operating in close proximity.
Promising developments to achieve weight saving and environmental improvements without sacrificing corrosion resistance are under investigation.
