Abstract
The paper considers the problems presented by dirt and metallic dust in underground railway tunnels. The paper deals with the origins of the problem and its nature and present methods of clearing the dust. From this point the paper covers the development of the tunnel cleaning train currently being commissioned for London Transport and its equipment for the collection and disposal of the dust, the operation of the train and the special traction and other equipment.
