Abstract
This paper gives details of an investigation into the improvement of the torque characteristics of a turbocharged Commer TS3 two-stroke diesel engine.
At low engine speeds when there is a need for a rising torque characteristic the desirability of using a combustion chamber before the turbine is investigated:
theoretically using a computer matching program, and, experimentally by removal of the scavenge blower and incorporating a combustion chamber in the exhaust ducting.
Theoretical and experimental work is reported in this paper.
