Abstract
In the past the engineer's role in company appraisal has been restricted to that of a technical adviser but with need to become conversant with the disciplines which impinge on his work he has now acquired such a depth of knowledge and experience as to justify his acceptance in the leading role.
This paper is intended to provide a guide for those engineers who are called upon to assume the principal role in company appraisal. It emphasises the need for clear terms of reference, the importance of planning and briefly describes the main headings against which the appraisal is conducted.
