Abstract
The current commercial situation, the Home Office standards, and the trends in water tender design are outlined. The aims of a fire appliance cab designer are examined and the reasons for the decision to develop a 6 man crew safety cab are explained. The current and proposed commercial vehicle and bus legislation was examined and found to be not directly relevant to Water Tenders. A series of fundamental safety standards were evolved and the CSV cab was designed to meet these standards. The non-structural aspects of the cab design are discussed. The successful cab testing programme is described.
