Discrepancies between predicted and actual ball race performance have drawn attention to the theoretical assumptions at present in use. This paper reports an experimental study of contact angle positions and ball rolling axis inclinations from which it is concluded that centrifugal track expansions should be included in predictions of contact angle positions, and as speed is increased the ball rolling axis moves out of the centreline plane of the bearing.
