In this paper a study is made of existing literature on scale formulae since 1955 and a general formula which embraces most of these formulae is derived. A separate scale formula is evolved for volumetric efficiency. After demonstrating how the new procedure for scale effect on hydraulic efficiency could be applied a discussion on the limitations of some very recent scale formulae is given. Finally, the influence of various turbine parameters on scale effect is illustrated.
