This paper describes a design study of equipment for the handling of ancillary forging tools employed in open die press forging. From an examination of manual tooling practice in a press forge a specification for a mechanical handler is drawn up and a suitable design completed. This is costed and assessed in relation to the savings in manpower and time, and is found to be economically viable.
