Abstract
An analysis is made to assess the forces and moments arising at the junction of a pressurized circular cylindrical shell and end bulkhead which forms part of a hollow sphere. Expressions are developed for the stress distributions for two cases:
When the end bulkhead is joined rigidly and directly to the cylinder. When a jointing ring is introduced at the junction. The necessary and sufficient geometric conditions for the existence of pure membrane stress in the structure are then examined.
