Abstract
As well as meeting the functional needs of the tests required, an installation for testing engines should, also provide a satisfactory environment for operating personnel. Nuisance or disturbance to persons or apparatus in the vicinity must be avoided.
Consideration is given to the requirements of heating, ventilation and acoustic treatment of the test room and the provision of services. The test bed arrangements are dependent on the kind of work to be undertaken.
The test bed equipment required includes dynamometers and instrumentation for the various phenomena to be measured. Many tests can be made without personnel in attendance by the use of automatic operating equipment and recorders, provided safety devices are fitted.
The simulation of service conditions gives rise to interesting problems for the equipment engineer.
