Abstract
“Standardization” is taken to cover (1) simplification of a range of components ; (2) standardization of capacities and of operating conditions; and (3) standardization of station arrangement. The paper deals with aspects of (2) and (3), and notes on auxiliary plant, including condensers, are added. A warning note is sounded, lest standardization should lead to stagnation.
Reference is made to the possibilities of hydrogen-cooling as a means of reducing windage losses and the maximum indivisible weight of stator to be handled.
