Abstract
The paper reviews the following operations in worsted yarn production: wool combing and its evolution, with descriptions of the Lister, Noble, and Heilmann machines; worsted drawing on the Bradford, Continental, and Anglo-Continental systems; gilling, with an account of the various types of machine in use; spinning and its evolution, with descriptions of worsted, flyer cap, and ring frames, and of the mule; and the evolution of automatic doffers.
