Abstract
This paper points to the importance of metal manipulation as distinct from metal cutting and describes current developments in the field of cold gear rolling. It lists some of the advantages of rolling gears over presently available conventional manufacturing methods. The paper deals specifically with the following three subjects: pure cold gear rolling applied as an initial development to finish rolling and full-depth rolling applied as a subsequent development; hot rolling of spur type gears; and hot and cold gear rolling of crown wheels.
