This paper deals with some anomalies of the fuel injection system (cavitation, needle reopenings, gas entry into the injector) and their effects on the engine and fuel injection system behaviour. Particular attention is paid to the initial and final stages of the fuel injection, where irregularities have been recognized as one of the most frequent causes of abnormal behaviour of the combustion.
