Abstract
Important features of taper roller bearings which influence their suitability for use in various driveline applications are reviewed. The meaning of bearing life and capacity is explained and a method of arriving at weighted average loadings is considered. A new type of taper roller bearing, first designed for the rear wheels of fixed axles, is described and comments are made on its use for other automotive applications.
