Abstract
The paper describes the type of gear, produced in millions every year, which can be found in most modern cars. Manual gears having now reached a high stage of development, improvements can be made only in construction details, in fitting the gears into the cars, and in the technique of finishing. Five manual gears are discussed and ten details of construction are explained. Finally, two examples of semi-automatic gears are given.
