Flow in upflow bends and past obstructions was examined both visually and with a traversing probe, which measured the local time average air concentration. Various features of the flow are described, and principal among these concern the competition between centrifugal and gravitational forces for bends and the factors affecting a separated region downstream of an obstruction.
