Abstract
Steps in failure investigations are enumerated in a systematic sequence for the benefit of engineers having to conduct failure investigations without the benefit of expert specialist advice or of long personal experience. The generalized systematic approach described stems from accounts of special investigations given in literature or communicated by specialists in various fields on post-experience courses held in the last eight years on the subject of ‘Analysis of failures of machines and structures’.
