Abstract
The primary objective of this paper is to describe the arrangement, operation, and features of the present-day General Motors heaters and air conditioners which have achieved a high degree of customer acceptance. The discussion will be limited to General Motors systems, and to equipment of past and present production. A brief historical review will be provided to show some of the highlights of the heating and air conditioning development, leading up to the present mixed-air heaters and the ‘Four-Seasons’ air conditioners. The basic design and advantages of automatic control systems will be described, and, finally, a look at some of the production components of a ‘Four-Seasons’ air conditioner.
