Abstract
The paper begins by quoting some fundamental definitions in quality control. Changes are then noted in some of the basic B.S. specifications applied in boilermaking. Co-operation between C.E.G.B. and boilermakers in producing detailed specifications is outlined and also progress by the boilermakers in establishing improved quality control organizations. Brief reference is made to an economic balance between the possible cost of service failure in boiler plant and the amount of non-destructive testing imposed during construction; a case for 100 per cent testing is also advanced. In conclusion the review suggests that, as a result of the actions outlined, a basis has been laid for notable achievements in plant reliability.
