Abstract
In this paper some recent development work on a high output air-cooled two-stroke cycle compression ignition engine designed for a military tank is given. This engine develops a maximum gross output 870 PS (858 hp) from 21·5 litres (131 in3) of cylinder volume at a speed of 2200 rev/min. Exhaustive development was necessary for this new engine to ensure satisfactory performance and excellent durability.
