Abstract
Some of the finer points to be taken into consideration when accurately calibrating surface texture and roundness measuring instruments are discussed. Consideration is given to such things as stylus condition, linearity, range switching accuracy, frequency response, and overall sensitivity. The paper concludes with a brief account of an experiment to determine roundness errors to better than ¼ μin (0·006 μm).
