Abstract
The design of flow passages for gas-cooled nuclear reactors is complicated by considerations of nuclear physics and structural design. This paper outlines these difficulties and describes experimental work aimed at establishing design criteria for complex ducts of particular shapes. The results concerning the effects of turning vanes and increasing duct width show that conventional procedures for reducing pressure losses in individual bends are not always successful in complex ducts.
