Abstract
A resistance strain gauge type of load cell that has been used for measuring tensile loads of up to 4000 lbf at ambient pressures of up to 180 000 lbf/in2 is described. The method used to calibrate the cell in an ambient pressure of 135 000 lbf/in2 and a similar but more sensitive load cell, which was subjected to the same maximum tensile strain with only a 1000 lbf load, is given. Calibrations were reproducible within ±1½ per cent and agreed with the atmospheric calibration curve within 1½ per cent.
