Abstract
The design of the frame, container, clamping device, and high pressure seals for a semi-continuous hydrostatic extrusion production machine is analysed. Containers of novel construction are shown to have advantages over those known hitherto. Designs of clamping devices are given, some being actuated by the cyclic container pressure, some by a secondary cyclic pressure.
Of four potential solutions for the frame of the machine, two offer substantial advantages in stiffness, the main design requirement if an acceptable life for the plunger at very high cyclic stresses is to be achieved.
