Abstract
The paper describes the design and development of the Belfast intensifier which is capable of delivering fluids at pressures of up to and slightly in excess of 200 000 lbf/in2. The design philosophy accepts that some of the components will have a very restricted life and therefore they should be made simple and easily replaceable. Alternative designs aimed at eliminating the weakening effect of cross-bores such as in the inlet outlet T-piece are discussed and a detailed general arrangement drawing of a new design of intensifier for pressures in excess of 200 000 lbf/in2 is given. This unit is in the process of manufacture and development.
