Abstract
The paper describes the design and development of thick-walled cylinder creep rigs capable of operation at 20 tonf/in2 and 750°C. Water is used as the pressurizing fluid. These rigs have been used to test 0·19 per cent carbon steel cylinders with an outer diameter to bore diameter ratio of 2 at a temperature of 450°C. Preliminary results are reported at pressures in the range 6–10 tonf/in2 and the maximum duration of testing to date is 4845 hours.
This paper forms one of four devoted to research into the creep of thick-walled cylinders.
