This paper is concerned with the main principles which should govern the design of devices to protect the occupants of cars in accidents and includes consideration of desirable alterations in the design of the car.
The main conclusion is that effective protection can be obtained at very little extra cost by means of properly designed seat belts, and that major alterations to the design of the car are necessary in only a few instances.
