Abstract
Transformer noise is caused almost entirely by vibrations of the iron circuit. The means by which vibrations are generated are discussed, together with factors affecting their magnitude. The transmission path from the iron circuit to the transformer tank wall is examined and modes of resonance and methods of increasing the attenuation along this path are discussed.
External devices for attenuating noise are described, together with methods for finding the required attenuation for particular site conditions.
