Three fairly recent unreported cases would appear to show that the courts find no difficulty in allowing damages for deafness. In Haley v. London Electricity Board C.A. (The Times, 27 March 1965) £1,000 damages were awarded for deafness as one of various heads of damage. In Foster v. Tickle C.A. 18.11.63 deafness in one ear was regarded as a good cause of action, the judge saying: ‘In addition to having sustained the serious injuries to which I have referred [the plaintiff] is practically com-pletely deaf in his left ear and has difficulty in hearing in his right ear.’ See also McGettigan v. Balfour Beatty and Co. Ltd Q.B.D. London 11.5.54.
