Abstract
In practice, the temperature of a moving liquid is usually determined from a stationary probe inserted into the liquid stream. The ‘probe error’, in terms of boundary-layer theory, thus introduced, involves an overall recovery factor which is dependent on thermodynamic and transport properties of the fluid. A semi-empirical expression for this recovery factor is developed, and an experimental method for determination of the probe error is described.
