Abstract
The problem was one of overcoming wear and seizure in flexible claw couplings operating with severe shaft misalignment. A laboratory test simulated claw coupling wear so that various materials could be tested under different operating conditions, with a view to finding a claw face material with lower frictional and wear properties than those of lead-bronze which is used at present. The outcome of tests was the recommendation of a synthetic nylon impregnated molybdenum disulphide material.
