Abstract
Since spark knock at high engine speeds is becoming an increasing problem with modern Western European cars, the relationship between this phenomenon and gasoline composition has been investigated.
The engines prone to high speed knock are generally those of relatively high specific output (high bhp/litre) compared to the general car population. In such engines, spark knock at high speeds was found to be more closely related to Research ON and olefin content than to either Research ON and sensitivity or Motor ON alone.
